AambaT chuka / Sorrel dal

 

Ingredients

 

Ingredients are –

aambaT chuka varaN (1)

  • – 1) 1 bunch of Sorrel,
  • – 2) half cup tuvar dal,
  • – 3) ¼ cup groundnuts (optional ),
  • – 4) 2 to 3 green chilies, cut lengthwise,
  • – 5) 1 teaspoon cumin seeds,
  • – 6) half teaspoon turmeric powder,
  • – 7) half teaspoon asafoetida,
  • – 8) salt,
  • – 9) Oil.

 

Directions

 

To proceed:

  • – 1) Remove and discard hard stems of sorrel and finely chop the leaves and stems.
  • – 2) In a pressure cooker heat some oil and fry the green chilies.
  • – 3) Add the turmeric powder, asafoetida and sorrel.
  • – 4) Add groundnuts ( if using ) and dal and 2 cups of water.
  • – 5) Close the lid of cooker, and pressure cook for 5 minutes.
  • – 6) Put off the flame, and when the pressure drops, open the cooker and mash the dal a little. Add salt to taste.
  • – 7) Heat some oil separately and add the cumin seeds, when they splutter pour the hot oil over the dal.

This daal tastes good without adding sugar or gur, but you can add it, if you prefer.
